Current Position: DPP Secretary General, Candidate for Vice President 2012 Education: Food Science Degree, National Taiwan Ocean University Masters in Public Administration, National Sun Yat-Sen University Experience: 2006-2008 Minister of Agriculture 2004-2006 Minister of the Interior 1997-2001 and 2001-2004 Governor of Pintung County for two terms 1993-1996 and 1996-1997 Legislator (MP) for two terms as representative of Pintung County 1986-1992 National Assembly Member Biography: Starting in politics as part of the Tangwai (outside party movement), Mr. Su Jia-Chyuan has been an active member of the DPP since its founding in 1986. He served in the rst National Assembly as a member from 1986 to 1992. He also served as a legislator for two terms from 1993 to 1997. Running for Governor of his native Pintung County in 1997, he won the election and continued serving for two terms. In 2004, he was appointed Minister of the Interior of the Executive Yuan under the DPP administration. In 2006, he was then appointed Minister of Agriculture and served until the power transfer of 2008. Since 2008, Mr. Su has served as Secretary General of the DPP, and has played a major role in improving the image of the party. In 2010, Mr. Su ran as Mayor of Greater Taichung, a challenging area for the DPP, but lost by a small margin as a result of an incident that affected election sentiment the night before the election. In 2011, DPP Chair Tsai Ing-wen nominated Mr. Su as her running mate, becoming the DPPs Candidate for Vice President for the 2012 presidential election.
