just like a plain, but TALLER). PLATEAU (Pla-toe)

ISLAND (i-land)

A large body of water

surrounded by land on all sides (usually does not connect to an ocean). LAKES

Land that rises above the land around it that is shorter than a mountain.

HILLS

A large area of land that sticks out into water. It usually sticks out into big bodies of water. PENINSULA

Land that rises much higher than the land around it (higher than a hill).

MOUNTAINS

A branch of water that flows

into a bigger body of water like a river.

TRIBUTARY

A large part of the sea or ocean

that is partly surrounded by land.

GULF

A part of a sea or ocean that is

partly surrounded by land. They are also smaller than gulfs.

BAY

A large body of salty water that covers a large area. There are five of these on Earth.

OCEAN

A long natural stream of water that flows through the land.

RIVER
