What is Plasma ?
It is a state of matter similar to Gas. Mostly Inert Gases. Ionized at High Temperature. Contain Protons and Free Electrons. 20000-25000C

Plasma Arc Torch

A device used for producing Plasma Arc.

Working

Plasma Arc Cutting

The Process of Cutting Metals using the Plasma Arc Torch. Born in 1960s In 1980s it was the most productive way.

HOW?
Workpiece: A metal sheet of 6 inch thickness. Having MP = 3000C. Plasma: Argon Gas. 25000 C (45000F) Velocity is greater than sound.

Reasons
Temp. of Plasma > MP of Metal The plasma is localized at a desired area. The velocity of free electrons in plasma is very high. The workpiece is given High Voltage High Frequency +ve Charge.

Advantages
Superior Cutting Ability. High Precision. Fairly Economical. Less Waste Produced.

Disadvantages
Operation Cost is high. Skilled Operator Required. Precautions and Safety.

Plasma Arc Welding

The Process of Joining two Metals using Plasma Arc Torch.

Advantages
Greater Energy Concentration. Deep & narrow penetration is achievable. Greater arc stability.

Disadvantages
Expensive and Complex Equipment. Welding procedures is complex. High Operator skill required. Orifice replacement is necessary.

Any Doubts ???
