Multiple Intelligences
Howard Gardner (1983) espoused the existence of a number of distinct forms of intelligence possessed by individuals and advanced that each individual must be afforded an opportunity to explore and develop these abilities. Gardner lists eight intelligences that each person possesses. Understanding our dominant intelligences can help us discover new strategies to help increase success at work, school, or home.
Visual/Spatial : The ability to use navigational skillsplay chess Verbal: The ability to use language effectively in either written or verbal
communication
Logical/mathematical: To use numbers effectively Interpersonal: To work effectively and communicate with other people,
attentive to temperament, motivation, mood, and intention, demonstrating empathy for the feelings of others
Intrapersonal:
The ability to know ones self including an understanding of thought processes and spiritual realities while engaging in self-reflection and recognizing a connection to the larger order of things Bodily/kinesthetic: To use the body to express emotion as in dance, sports, and creating a new product or invention (Armstrong,1994). Naturalist: To recognize, categorize, and draw upon certain environmental features.
Musical:
Encompasses a sensitivity to pitch, timbre, and the rhythm of sounds, as well as responsiveness to the emotional implications of these musical elements (Nicholson-Nelson,1998).
