Subject : Medical Camp by SSG Korwil I (North Sumatra) - REVISED

MEDICAL CAMP (conducted on 19th March 2006):

Central Council Indonesia (North-Sumatra) recently conducted a medical camp at

Tanjung Rejo village to help ease the villagers’ difficulty in obtaining medical aid. The
village is located at Percut Sei Tuan district, Deli Serdang region, North Sumatra and is
approximately 20 kilometers or one-and-a-half hours from Medan city.

Bearing in mind their economic constraints and the remoteness of the village from the
nearest health clinic, this camp was heartily welcomed and much appreciated by the
villagers.

The medical team comprised of 4 doctors, 8 pharmacists and 30 volunteers. Also

assisting were 7 social workers from the locality, totaling up to 49 people. Together
they served 164 villagers.

Many of the residents, majority of whom are fishermen, complained of rheumatism, skin
ailments due to lack of hygiene and several also suffered from Diabetes. Along with
medical aid, the sevadals also distributed food provisions (5kg rice, 5 packets noodles,
1 bar of soap and 1 set of clothing) to 477 families in the village. This came as a treat
for them since their living is on bare necessities. Their average income is about Rp.
10.000 – Rp. 20.000 (equivalent to U$ 1.1 – U$ 2.22) per day or Rp.300.000 –
Rp.600.000 (equivalent to U$ 33.3 – U$ 66.6) per month.

The villagers were grateful to the Sri Sathya Sai Central Council for the medical camp
and look forward to the continuity of such acts of compassion in the near future.
