ENGLISH EDUCATION SYSTEM

Full time education is compulsory for children between 5 and 16 years old -Primary school-compulsory: six years of schooling from 5 to 11 years of age; going from year 1 to 6 *year 2: (6-7 ages) SATS: Scholastic Aptitude Test and year 6 (10 to 11ages)

Spains current education system is LOE (Ley Orgnica de Educacion) -Compulsory and free, from 6 to 16 years old

-Nursery school, -non compulsory ages 0 to 3 -Primary School, six years of schooling, 6 to 12 years of
age * 1st cycle: 6 to 8 years old *2nd cycle: 8 to 10 years old *3rd cycle: 10 to 12 years old

-Secondary School: five years of schooling, ages going


from 11 to 16 years old *year 9 (13 to 14 years old) SATS, and year 11 (15 to 16 years old) GCSE Genral Certificates of Secundary Education

-Higher Education- non compulsory:


* year 12, from 16 to 17 years old *year 13, from 17 to 18 years old

- Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO)


*1st cycle from 12 to 14 years old *2nd cycle: from 14 to 16 years old

-University: typically 3 year courses

-Possibility of doing Vocational training - Bachillerato: which has two parts


*compulsory subjects *specialist part, choosing a few branches

-University: normal duration courses is, 4 years


this studies have ECTS credits, needing 240 credits in order for obtain an academic degree
