Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun in the Solar System .

it is the 7th largest planet in the solar system. The planet is named after the Roman god of war, Mars. In Greek, Mars was known as Ares. It is often described as the "Red Planet", as the iron oxide prevalent on its surface gives it a reddish appearance. It has two small moons named Phobos and Deimos. Mars can easily be seen from Earth with the naked eye. It takes 687 days to revolve round the sun and 24 hours and 39 minutes to rotate around itself. The average temperature on the planet Mars is -55 C. The atmosphere of this planet consists of carbon dioxide and nitrogen. It also has seasons like our very own planet earth. The largest canyon and the largest mountain, Olympus Mons, in the solar system in on the planet Mars..The
name of the month March derives from Mars. The first spacecraft to visit Mars was Mariner 4 in 1965. Scientists have found very less amount of oxygen and water on the planet Mars. Due to vast similarities between Mars and Earth, scientists have undertaken many research to find out life on planet Mars. But it remains a open question whether life currently exists on Mars, or has existed there in the past.
