    Rabbi Larry Raphael will be teaching a 4-part downtown Talmud class on Thursdays in October, November and December from noon to 1pm at the Farella Braun + Martell Russ Building. The class will provide stimulating discussions on Jewish law and thought with no prior knowledge of Talmud or Hebrew required. Materials and light refreshments will be provided free of charge, but registration is requested by contacting Lisa Hoelle. The Talmud consists of oral law cited by Rabbis that was later compiled and edited between 200-600 CE in both Babylonia and Jerusalem, with the Babylonian version viewed as more authoritative.

    The Talmud consists of oral law (the Mishnah) cited by the Rabbis and edited in written form about 200 CE plus several centuries of added commentary (Gemarah) edited into written form between 500 and 600 CE. A Talmud was compiled both in Babylonia and in Jerusalem. The former is viewed as more authoritative.
