Education in the largest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical

ability of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another.

Education is further defined as "to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of..." Thus, from these definitions, we might assume that the purpose of education is to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of students.

The report coordinated by Jacques Delors: One of the highlights of this report is the fact that it gives education the role of "providing humanity with the capacity to control its own development"based on the "responsible

participation of individuals and communities".

In the field of education, the UNESCO Report coordinated by Jacques Delors (Learning: The Treasure Within) came, over two decades after EdgarFaures Learning to Be, to point out the path towards education in the 21st century.

It presented us, as would a pedagogical compass, with the challenge of developing the potential of new generations based on the Four

Educational Pillars for the 21st Century, a solid foundation for the
constructionof a new ideal of man for the new times: Learning to Be, Learning to LiveTogether, Learning to Do and Learning to Know.
