Mayor
Tom
Conley
Announces
Candidacy
for
President
of
the
United
States
October
25th,
2011,
Washington
D.C.
With
his
wife
Devon
and
supporters
by
his
side,
Mayor
Tom
Conley,
otherwise
known
as
Major
General
(retired)
Thomas
A.
Conley,
formally
announced
today
his
candidacy
for
the
Presidency
of
the
United
States.
Speaking
from
his
office
in
the
historic
Wilson
Building
on
Pennsylvania
Avenue,
Americas
Main
Street,
Mayor
Conley
spoke
briefly
about
his
campaigns
emphasis
on
American
leadership
and
his
decision
to
run
for
the
nations
highest
office.
Were
in
a
tough
time
right
now
in
America
and
here
on
our
national
Main
Street
I
see
it
every
day.
We
need
more
jobs,
certainly,
but
we
need
much
more
than
that.
We
need
a
complete
top-to-bottom
rethink
about
how
we
do
things
in
this
country,
from
how
we
build
our
cities,
to
how
we
fuel
our
cars.
From
how
we
educate
our
children,
to
how
we
protect
our
seniors.
These
challenges
we
face
are
complex,
and
ladies
and
gentlemen
let
me
tell
you:
the
road
ahead
will
not
be
easy.
But
Im
getting
into
this
race
because
I
know
that
with
the
right
leadership,
we
can
overcome.
Because
I
know
that
when
we
stand
together,
there
is
nothing
that
we
cannot
do.
We
will
lead
the
way
toward
a
new,
sustainable
energy
future
that
ends
our
dependence
on
foreign
oil.
We
will
lead
the
way
in
renewing
our
nations
classrooms
to
equip
our
kids
with
the
tools
they
need
to
win
in
the
21st
century.
We
will
lead
the
way
in
reimagining
the
city,
putting
millions
of
Americans
back
to
work
as
we
build
communities
that
are
safer,
greener
and
more
sustainable
than
anything
weve
seen
before.
Leading
the
way.
Thats
really
what
America
is
all
about
isnt
it?
It
is
what
we
do.
It
is
who
we
are.
We
are
the
light
of
Liberty.
Stand
with
me
and
together,
we
will
lead
the
way.
Tom
Conley
enters
the
race
after
five
years
as
Mayor
of
the
Nations
Capital.
Prior
to
that
he
served
as
the
Commanding
General
of
the
D.C.
National
Guard,
the
culmination
of
his
20-year
career
in
the
US
Military.
Together
with
his
wife
of
23
years,
Devon,
he
has
one
son.
Mayor
Conley
will
spend
the
next
month
campaigning
in
Massachusetts
ahead
the
candidates
debate
there
on
November
30th.
