Providing learner of foreign languages with vocabulary lists is a little practical value.

People hold diffirent opinions about how to teach student effectively, especially in building-up vocabulary. Some argue that providing students with a list of vocabulary is the best way to improve their new languages. On the other hand, some people believe that the method is not suitable. I find the later oppinion more convincing for the following reasons. As far as I can tell , providing lists with translational equivalents is not a must. While I agree that a person will probably know at least one meaning for a word before knowing all of its meaning, the users put it in the wrong contexts and this make presentings lists is not efficent and effective. Knowing only one mean of the word may make the learners can not understand many different cases that use this word or they catch the misconception about a problem. But it is difficult for students to learn all meanings of one word if they have no specific contexts. Thus, getting words through reading newspapers, magazines. it seems to me, becomes a good way. In fact, supplying learners with a series of new words and only their means may make him/her use these words in the wrong ways. Many other types of wordknowledge suggest the grammatical behavior , the spoken form, the wirtten form, the register of the word,, and most of them are necessary to be able to use a word in the wide variety of language situations. On the one hand, the students, therefore, would be at risk of using the words wrongly in grammar than the one they have provided fully word-knowledge. On the other hand, it is not easy for them to communicate with foreign people by using this language because and they can not express their means ,and do not know the spoken form of these words. Morover, they will find difficult to wirte an essay or article in academic form because they can not use all words that they have influently and grammatically. To conclude, I tend to think that providing a list of new words with their means proves to be highly ineffective. While teaching vocabulary is a must, it should be born on mind that there are more interesting and fruitful ways to do it than to assign learners the boring, ineffective task of rote learning.
