GM STICKER CODES
The four digit codes start with a letter. This code is FLTV. The 1st digit F indicates Fwd or Rwd. The 2nd digit L indicates the approximate stall speed and the approximate K Factor. The 3rd digit T indicates the type of clutch damper plate and the type of friction material. The 4th digit indicates the type of front cover by bolt pattern, Fwd or Rwd and the transmission type. If the converter has been rebuilt before, do not rely on the fin angle or the sticker for identification. In the remanufacturing process, covers and impellers can be mixed and matched.

Only the lowest stall impellers are used to manufacture these converters. The impellers used are even lower stall than the typical low stall straight rib impellers; only impellers that have an extra low stall negative rib angle are used in building these converters. All impellers are manually or furnace brazed for added strength and efficiency.
In the stator, the only roller clutch assembly used is the .980 tall version. A new high capacity Torrington bearing replaces the OE plastic cap as the thrust surface. Fig-54 Turbines are manually or furnace brazed. The turbine hubs are secured with solid (not hollow) rivets and manually TIG welded to the turbine shell. This helps prevent stress fractures found in high torque and heavy load applications.
Only the latest version (3rd Design) of the LuK multiple friction clutch assemblies are used. This latest design has solved the problems such as noise complaints and not allowing the full release or apply of the converter clutch.
The bearing between the turbine hub and front cover is also the latest design. Replaced 100% of the time, this bearing has a shoulder that keeps the race properly positioned in all phases of converter operation.
The Billet front cover is specially designed to mate to the LuK 3rd design Multi Friction Clutch assembly. Configured with either four or six studs, this Billet front cover can handle the abuse of modified high torque and/or heavily loaded applications. The studs bases are threaded, counter sunk and then pinned into position, thus eliminating the studs pulling out during installation.
The FM64DX-S3 and FM64RX-S3 are very low stall units, approximately 250 rpms lower than the FM64D and FM64R. They may not be suitable for stock applications. These are best suited for vehicles that have engine modifications that result in increased torque output.

In some later models, Chrysler changed from an offset bolt pattern to a 90 bolt pattern. The offset bolt pattern has one pad that is offset. Take a straight edge from the center of one bolt hole, across the center of the pilot, to the opposite bolt hole. Or measure the distance between the bolts next to each other. If the measurements are the same, it is a 90 bolt pattern. If they are different, it is an offset bolt pattern.

Recon by Transtar Torque Converter LIMITED WARRANTY All Recon by Transtar Torque Converters supplied are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for a period of 36 months or 36,000 miles (58,000 kilometers) from the date of purchase, whichever occurs first. This warranty does not apply to products that have been altered, improperly installed, maintained or repaired; contaminated with oil or grease; or damaged as a result of overheating, by accident, negligence, misuse, race or off-road use, or any other unauthorized use. This warranty is exclusive and in lieu of any other express or implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or other warranty of quality, whether express or implied, except the warranty of title. Further, all express or implied warranties are limited to the duration of this warranty or the warranty of any third-party customer, dealer, jobber, provider, manufacturer or distributor of such product supplied hereunder, whichever is less, and specifically does not exceed and/or replace any such third-party warranty. Any and all parts returned to Transtar for warranty claim must be returned through the customer, dealer, jobber, provider or distributor from whom it was purchased, in accordance with applicable policy and procedure, with a written explanation of how the part(s) were installed and operated. Transtar reserves the right to inspect and examine all parts returned to it for warranty claim to determine whether or not any such part has failed because of a defect in material or workmanship. The obligation under this warranty shall be strictly limited to replacing or crediting, at Transtars option, any part found to be so defective. Bolt Circle Diameter Bolt Pattern - 90 Bolt Pattern - Offset Bolt Circle Radius The measurement between two mounting points (bolt holes or studs) that are 180 degrees opposed. NOTE: Always measure from center to center . Typically refers to 4 pad Chrysler converters with pads equally spaced in relation to one another. The distance (center to center) is the same when measuring adjacent pads Typically refers to 4 pad Chrysler converters with pads NOT equally spaced in relation to one another. The distance (center to center) is DIFFERENT when measuring adjacent pads The measurement between the center of one mounting point (bolt hole or stud) and the center of the pilot. Bolt Circle Radius x 2 equals Bolt Circle Diameter. The practice of reinforcing fins in either the primary (impeller) or the turbine. Lock Up - Multi Friction Clutch Lock Up - On / Off Type of clutch piston lock up that uses more than one friction element Term used to describe characteristics of lock up control. On-Off indicates that the friction elements in the converter are either fully applied, or fully released. Application does not call for the converter clutch to be partially slipped Type of lock up control that allows the converter clutch to partially slip during normal operation. PWM refers to Pulse Width Modulation. A PWM system typically incorporates valve body, solenoid and software components that can pulse (as opposed to simply turn off) release oil to the converter clutch assembly. Converter clutches can be slipped very briefly, or over extended periods of time, depending upon application. Different OEMs use different techniques in different applications; therefore not all PWM systems are the same. Typically, the converter clutch assembly is calibrated to the type of PWM system that is used in a specific application. Mismatching non PWM torque converters into PWM equipped applications (and vice versa) can cause drivability problems and premature failure. Electronic Converter Clutch Control (ECCC) is a proprietary type of PWM control of the converter clutch that was introduced by General Motors into some applications as early as 1996. ECCC (also know as EC3 or EC3) strategy can continuously slip the converter clutch for very long periods of driving. ECCC typically requires use of woven carbon (or equivalent) friction material that can endure the heat generated by this style of PWM. The most reliable way to determine if a vehicle uses ECCC strategy is to connect a scan tool to the vehicle and monitor the method by which lock up is applied. Types of ways that the converter can be attached to the engine flex plate or flywheel. Power Control Module. Can also be referred to as TCM, ECM, VCM, or simply the computer Hardware . and software that controls electronic functions of the transmission in computer controlled applications. Lock Up - PWM
Overall Converter Height Measured from the leading edge of the hub to the surface of the converter that sits against the flex plate. Measurement of converter components as they deviate from centerline. Typically, run out is measured from pilot to hub and is recorded as TIR (total indicated run out). There are many variables and , methods used to measure run out, and different methods will produce different results Hypothetical maximum engine RPM measurement with the input shaft of the transmission locked in place. This is how fast the engine can spin the outside shell of the converter with the inner turbine locked in place. Stall speed is dependent upon the power characteristic of the engine that is driving the torque converter. The same converter will have a different stall speed when placed behind different engines. Component of the torque converter that is separate and independent from the outer shell of the converter. When installed on the transmission, the stator is splined onto stator support splines. Stator typically contains a roller clutch or sprag assembly that allows one way rotation. Stationary splines in the transmission that supports the stator inside of the converter. Component of the torque converter that is separate and independent from the outer shell of the converter. The turbine is the driven member of the converter that is splined to the input shaft of the transmission. Converter balance weights: Balance weights attached to the converter that are in place to balance the torque converter. These smaller weights are typically between 5 and 20 grams Engine counter balance weights: Balance weights attached to the converter that are in place to balance the engine crankshaft. These larger weights are typically between 60 and 120 grams
