How is acid rain made?

Read the passage below and then answer the questions. Acid rain is rain that has a pH of between 4 and 5 on the pH scale. Very strong acids can burn your skin and can even destroy metals. Acid rain is much weaker than this; it is not strong enough to burn your skin. Acid rain is made by air pollution (dirty air) that comes from power stations (a place where electricity is made) and from car engines. Gases from car engines and power stations (such as sulfur dioxide) go up into the atmosphere. These gases dissolve in the water in clouds and they make acids such as sulfuric acid. When it rains, the acid rain falls to Earth. Acid rain can move very far in the atmosphere, not just between countries but also from continent to continent. The acid rain sometimes falls many miles from the source of pollution, but wherever it falls it can be very bad for trees and water. There are some places on Earth where forests have been destroyed by acid rain. If the acid rain goes into rivers and lakes, the fish and plants in the water can die. We must try to reduce the amount of acid rain to protect the environment. Questions: 1) What is the pH of acid rain? 2) What can very strong acids do to your skin? 3) Can acid rain burn your skin? 4) What makes acid rain? 5) Name one gas that makes acid rain. 6) What happens to the gases in the clouds? 7) How far can acid rain move in the atmosphere? 8) What has happened to some forests on Earth? 9) What can die if acid rain goes into rivers and lakes? 10) Why must we try to reduce the amount of acid rain?
