Petunia Bowl Sequenced Crease Pattern

Start with a pentagon folded in a circle. Valley fold the top point of the pentagon to the center and back, to mark the midpoint.

1 2 3 4

Valley fold the bottom edge to the mark just made and back, creasing between the pentagons Radii, as shown.

Rotate the paper 72 (so that the next point of the pentagon is up) and repeat steps 1 and 2. Continue until youve done all five sides and have made a small pentagon in the center.

Using the bottom of the large pentagon as a guide, valley fold from the corners of the small pentagon and back. These creases should be perpendicular to the bottom of the large pentagon.

72

Rotate the paper 72 and repeat step four. Continue all around.

5 6 7 8

Valley fold the edge of the circle to the corner of the small pentagon. Note that the fold starts at the intersection of one of the perpendicular folds. This is not a hard crease.

What that looks like

Thumb curves the paper inwards Index finger goes under, guides the crease Opposite thumb and finger pinch in the crease

Mountain fold from the corner of the small pentagon to the edge of the circle, using the edge as guide.

72

Mirror those folds on the small pentagons opposite corner.

9 10 11 12

Rotate 72 and repeat steps 6 - 9. Continue on, all round the circle.

What that looks like

Bring the curved folds in towards the center line. This causes the paper to curve back.

72
Rotate 72 repeat the last step. Continue on, all around the circle.

I find this model is improved if you put a small weight on the bottom of it and let it sit like that for 10 minutes or so. Evens out the stresses.
