Origami Triceratops

[This is a draft and may contain errors]

Donya Quick
Difficulty: [intermediate/high intermediate?]
Recommended paper: very thin, 15cm or larger
Despite the numbering on the steps, this model has a total of 44 steps, with 23 being the
same as the Brachyceratops. This model also uses grafting, which makes the use of thin
paper critical to achieve a well-formed model and to avoid paper tears when the model is
folded in half.
Begin with the paper colored side up.
1

Step 1 3: fold and unfold along the diagonal, then fold and unfold along both edgeparallel lines. Fold and unfold again dividing the paper into smaller increments, using the
edge-parallel lines as guides.
4

Step 4 5: turn the paper over. Fold the edge down to the first crease line. Inside reverse
fold the other side.

Step 6 8: squash fold, then raise the triangular flap up as far as it will go. Asymmetrical
squash fold to bring the left side over and the small colored flap up.

10

Step 9 10: fold the left flap over. Repeat steps 8 9 on the right side.

11

12

Step 11 12: turn the model over. Fold the lower flap up, then squash fold.

13

14

Step 13 14: squash fold the lower flap again, then fold its edges underneath.
Continue with steps 1 23 of the Brachyceratops, treating the side of the paper shown
above as the white side despite the small colored diamond at the bottom. The model
should look like the one shown in the figure for step 24 of the Brachyceratops, but do not
perform step 24s indicated folds.
15

16

17

18

Step 15 18: fold the top, small triangular flap up, and rabbit ear fold to create the horn.
Repeat to form the horn on the other side. Outside crimp fold to lower the head.

19

20

21

Step 19 21: fold the tip of the frill under, then crimp fold to form the nose horn. Shape
the models legs and fill. Pull the frill up slightly to make it 3-D. Adjust and shape the
horns to point forwards.
The model is now finished.
