Cultural Care Au Pair is the leading provider of intercultural childcare and educational exchange since 1989. A division of EF Education and a U.S. Department of State regulated program, Cultural Care Au Pair is headquartered in Cambridge, MA, with an extensive network of international recruitment, screening and orientation offices worldwide. ultural Care Au Pair is one of only 13 organizations in the world designated by the U.S. Department C of State to legally place au pairs with American host families. ultural Care Au Pair offers qualified young people the opportunity to live and study in the United C States for one year at a time, in exchange for providing 45 hours of childcare per week. ultural Care Au Pair is one of the largest and most experienced au pair organizations in the world, C having successfully placed more than 85,000 au pairs in American homes since 1989.

Au Pair Profile

The Screening Process


All au pairs attend a screening and orientation meeting and are interviewed in English. Topics covered include: the responsibilities and obligations of au pairs, child health and safety, U.S. culture and daily life, homesickness, and culture shock. Each au pair submits an extensive written application that has a summary of childcare experiences, family and educational background, a letter to the new host family, photos and at least three non-family references.

The Matching Process


Host families have three ways to match: one-to-one matching with a placement manager, a consultative matching session session with a placement manager or using our online Search & Select to browse through available au pair profiles. Host families review applications, interview candidates and makes a final decision.

Post-Arrival Training for Au Pairs


All au pairs receive 32 hours of training in child safety and development at the Au Pair Training School on the campus of St. Johns University in Oakdale, NY. We are the only agency who provides a campus setting entirely devoted to training au pairs with dedicated full-time staff and manageable class sizes.

Act as a liaison between the family, au pair, and Cultural Care staff Host monthly au pair meetings and bi-annual host family events Interview all families and maintain monthly contact with families Make initial contact within 48 hours of an au pairs arrival to the home Conduct orientations with families and newly arrived au pairs within two weeks of arrival to the families
