When a company bus comes in for repair, the mechanic diagnoses the various automotive systems in the bus and later produces a list of parts needing replacement. The mechanic sends the list to the supervising mechanic then will be forwarded to the manager, who, in turn, forwards the same to the company accountant then the result will be forwarded back to the manager for the approval of the purchase of the request. The stock department sends the purchased items to the manager all the way through the mechanic who made the request.

Planning Planning is the management function that involves anticipating future trends and determining the best strategies and tactics to achieve organizational objective. It is the selection and sequential ordering of tasks required to achieve an organizational goal. Planning efforts can either begin with board of directors and the tops executives of the organization or initiated at the lowest levels of the organizational hierarchy. In an organization, it is necessary to plan what will be done, who will do it, where, when and how it will be done. A good planning leads an organization to success. In order to have effective planning an organization must establish a planning structure, set specific organizational goals, formulate strategies, analyse risks and resources, develop operational goals and plans and implementation and control.

In Engr. Hermogenes Anchetas case, he is mulling over how he will make the operations of his department as efficient and effective as possible. One way to resolve his problem is to have a concrete plan on how he will manage his department. From the mechanic he could assign supervisor on each unit that will report to him for the approval purchase of request then he will forward the request to the company accountant. Once the request is approved the stock department will sends the purchased item to the manager all through the way to the mechanic who made the request. With proper planning, the assigned work for each department will become easier and efficient and the process of work is well organized. The plans must be controlled and implemented properly for effective planning.
