UNIT 3 listening script page 29, exercises 5 &6 Sally : What are you doing, James ?

James: Im inventing a secret code. Sally: oh! Why are you doing that? James: Because I want to give Paula a message tomorrow and I dont want anyone else to be able to read it. Sally: Why dont you just phone her at home now? James: Im embarrassed. Here, look at the secret message, Sally. See if you can break the code. If you can break it, Ill buy you lunch. Sally: Ok. Let me see. Its just a load of numbers, James! I dont know what it means. James: its a substitution code. Heres a hint the numbers stand for letters. Sally: Give me a few minutes and Ill work it out. James: Take your time. Ive tried four different codes and I think this one is the best. Sally: OK. Ive done it! The message says: Come to the party with me Thats so cute! James: How did you work it out so quickly? Sally: Once you told me the numbers stood for letters, it was easy. The numbers in the code are the letters place in the alphabet a is one, b is two, and so on. Now Im going to make my own code lets see um OK, heres my code. Lets see how quickly you can break it, James. James: it looks like Egyptian hieroglyphics a picture of an eye, a heart, and a pizza oh, I see. Your message says: I love pizza! Sally: Thats right! Lets go and get some pizza! Maybe I can help you find a better code for Paula while we have lunch! James: No. Ill just send her an ordinary e-mail tonight. Sally: Good night
