Current statistics shows that Nigeria population is 160 million + Interpreted to mean that, Nigeria is the largest black country in the world. The country is largely divided between Christians and Muslims. However, Christians are more in population.

Culture
There are more than 250 ethnic languages in Nigeria I come from the Bini speaking people, which is per-dominate in the southern part of Nigeria.

There are six geo-political zones: But divided along the North, South, East and West. Thirty-six States, 774 Local Authority
English is the official language for communication

Nigeria History
Nigeria was an artificial structure initiated by the British which had neglected to consider religious, linguistic, and ethnic differences.
Nigeria, gained independence from Britain in 1960, had at that time a population of 60 million people consisting of nearly 300 differing ethnic and cultural groups.

The Federation of Nigeria, has never really been one homogeneous country, This is obvious, the colonial master decided to keep the country one in order to effectively control her vital resources for their economic interests. Thus, for administrative convenience the Northern and Southern Nigeria were amalgamated in 1914.

The British colonial ideology that divided Nigeria into three regions North, West and East exacerbated the already welldeveloped economic, political, and social differences among Nigeria's different ethnic groups.

Conflict: How did it began?


The Nigeria political conflict was caused by the attempted secession of the southeastern provinces of Nigeria as the self-proclaimed Republic of Biafra.
The conflict was the result of economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions among the various peoples of Nigeria.

Head of the Federal Military Government of Nigeria from 1966 to 1975.


He took power after one military coup d'etat and was overthrown in another. His regime prevented Biafran secession during the 1966 1970 Nigerian Civil War.

Impact of the revolution


The immediate cause was identified as the coup and the counter coup of 1966 which altered the political equation and destroyed the fragile trust existing among the major ethnic groups.
