Welcome to Chem4kids! You will search this site to answer questions about the periodic table. 1) What is an Element?
Elements are the building blocks of all matter. So Elements are the smallest substance Made entirely from one type of a atom.Cannot be divided into anything smaller.
2) On the periodic table, What are the rows called? What do they all have in common?
The rows are called PERIOD in the periodic table. It goes side to side Elements have something in common if they are in the same row. All of the elements in a period have the same number of atomic orbitals. Every element in the rst period has 1 orbital for its electrons.
3) What is a shell?
Orbitals- Can hold different amount of electrons 1. A shell is sometimes call 2. Shells are areas that surround the center of an atom.
4) What are the columns called? What do they all have in common?
When the column goes from top to bottom its called a GROUP. It goes up and down. The elements in a group have the same number of electrons in their outer orbital. Every element in the first column (group one) has one electron in its outer shell. Every element on the second column (group two) has two electrons in the outer shell.

5) What is an atom?
Atomss make up everything Basic unit of an element cannot be seen Made of protons electrons and the neutrons
6) What is a nucleus?
Is the middle of the atom/center protons and neutrons in the necleus
8) Define Atomic Mass: 9) Choose any 6 elements and find the following information (referring only to the periodic table):
