MAGNETIC DATA ANALYSIS TO FIND OUT SUB-SURFACE STRUCTURE OF HOT SPRINGS MANIFESTATION AREA IN NORTHERN SIDE OF UNGARAN VOLCANO

By: Boko Nurdiyanto S. 98/120538/PA/07352 Abstract The complex geology structure of Ungaran volcano and the existence of hot springs manifestation in northern Ungaran volcano, Nglimut and Medini were the basic consideration of the geophysical survey by magnetic method. This research has been done to find out sub-surface structure condition and the structure which controls the hot springs manifestation. The research has been done for ten days with area width 2 km x 3 km and measurement space of 100 m, using PPM with gradiometer and GPS Trimble 4600 LS to measured the point position. Data processing started by correcting IGRF and daily variation to achieve anomaly of total magnetic area. Then, it was reduced to a horizontal plane at 867 m height above referential spheroid, upward continuation to 1300 m height above referential spheroid and regional anomaly correction. The result would be reduced to pole, be transformed to pseudo gravitation and would be founded the absolute value from the horizontal gradient. Qualitative interpretation has been done by analyzing the total magnetic vertical gradient contour, contour of total magnetic anomaly that was been reduced to pole, also the result of pseudo gravitation transformation and contour of absolute value from the horizontal gradient of the total magnetic area. Quantitative interpretation has been done by anomaly modeling using Mag2DC for Windows program. The result of qualitative interpretation is horizontal position of the thing causing anomaly which is located between Nglimut and Medini hot springs manifestation also knowing that thing causing anomaly spread along northwest southwest, which later interpreted as fault and lithology contact. The result of quantitative interpretation is geological structure model in the form of normal fault in piroklastic sediment and normal fault in lithology contact between piroklastic u u sediment ( k = 0.0269 em ) and basalt ( k = 0.0014 em ). Hot springs manifestation in Nglimut and Medini is controlled by the normal fault which become a weak zone, easily passed by hot water which comes from Ungaran volcano geothermal reservoir. The hot water pass causing the piroklastic sediment susceptibility value decrease become 0,0020 emu.
