SETTING REACTION OF ADDITION SILICONE

The setting reaction of the addition silicone involves platinum-catalyzed hydrosilylation, as shown in the Figure 3. Hydrogen polysiloxanes are added to the double bonds of vinyl polysiloxanes under the catalytic inuence of traces of a platinum compound which is the Chloroplatinic Acid Catalyst in the ppm range. In chemical terms, this reaction is purely an addition reaction in which no by-products are released. Therefore, the results show that there are no volatile by-products to cause shrinkage of elastomer.
