Lab Assignment # 3

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ASIA CONTROL SYSTEMS LAB HANDOUT # 3 Delivered on: Thursday (19-5- 2011). Due Date: Thursday (26-5-2011). A word of caution: The lab assignments should reflect genuine work by the students. Any attempt of cheating from other student/s will be dealt with seriously. Lab Task: Consider the following diagram. We have discussed in the class how to determine the transfer function of such systems. Time: By 11:30 AM (In class)

Assume appropriate values for M1, K, M2, and B. Calculate by hand, the differential equation of the given system. Now use this differential equation to find Laplace transform with the help of appropriate MATLAB commands. Find the output response of these systems. For input, you should use following three signals:

Lab Assignment # 3

Impulse Signal (use an appropriate amplitude) Step Signal (use an appropriate amplitude) Sinusoidal signal (Use: Acos2ft format with appropriate values for A, f, and t) Deliverables: You are supposed to submit hard copy of the following: 1. Handwritten calculations for differential equation. 2. MATLAB code for calculating and displaying the response of the system. (Use syms, laplace, ilaplace and pretty functions). 3. Plot the response against the input. Use subplot command to display all the responses for each particular input. 4. Discuss the affect of varying different parameters on output plot.
