The horror genre of film is supposed to make the viewer feel many emotions such as; panic, terror,

dread and horror. A typical horror film should usually include; blood and gore, a life threatening chase, a bad guy and a victim, usually a girl to portray a powerless antagonist. Themes that are contained within these horror films are death, the supernatural and psychological illness. There is usually a central protagonist, who is usually a vulnerable female victim, that the central villain attempts to physically or psychologically attack. Within the horror genre of film the typical target for a killer is the innocent female protagonist and her friends as they are more likely to be at hand when she is in danger. In 2009 a man named Charles Derry divided horror into three sub genres: Hauntings and demonic possessions Apocalypse The human monster

Hauntings and demonic possessions the control of a human being is taken over by a supernatural. For example, The Haunting in Connecticut, The Shinning.

Apocalypse the end of the world or of the world as we know it. This genre is usually focusing on zombie attacks. For example, Dawn of the Dead, Daybreakers.

The human monster usually this genre is dominated by a human killer either mental or psychological issues. For example, Jacobs Ladder or Saw.
