Mystery Box

Subject: Literacy and Science Theme: Any Grade(s): Primary Teacher Instructions: 1. Wrap a box with a lid in paper. The lid should be able to be removed without ripping the paper 2. Place an object inside that corresponds with the lesson 3. Come up with four clues that describe the object in the box 4. Each clue should be put on a separate piece of paper 5. Make one set of clues for each student 6. (Optional) Make a chart similar to their worksheet for whole group discussion Student Instructions: 1. Students will take out each clue individually 2. Students will read the clue and write it on their worksheets 3. Once all clues have been read and recorded, students will draw a prediction of what they think is in the mystery box Whole Group Instructions (Optional): 1. Before students get there clues, they can make predictions and they can be written on a chart 2. When students are finished with their individual predictions, they will come together in a whole group for discussion 3. 4 students will record the 4 clues on the chart 4. Students will be asked to come up and either write or draw their prediction 5. Students can discuss which clues helped them the most and/or why they came up with the prediction that they did
