ABSTRACT

This study enabled us to gain a lot of information regarding the factors influencing consumers to choose amongst liquid or bar soaps. To carry out this research work we chose 90 respondents of different age groups and of the two genders from different locations situated within Karachi. We went through a number of research papers, articles from internet and several journals to gain ample of knowledge. We distributed questionnaires amongst the sample size of 90and as a result of their prompt responses; we were able to draw conclusions by analyzing the responses. The results consistently support that about 40% of the sample size chose to use liquid soaps and 60% prefer bar soaps for a number of reasons. However, Income levels were greatly linked with the preference of price while buying a product. People with lower income levels do not consider buying a special kind of soap because of the price allotted to it. But in order to overcome this problem, a number of companies have started introducing liquid soaps in sachet packs so that they can be affordable to everyone. To find out the consumption rate of bar and liquid soaps, we had asked our respondents that whether they find any difference between bar or liquid soap. It was found that 64.4% men out of 45 agreed that there is a lot of difference between the two whereas 28.88% women supported the fact. Furthermore, because of the relative popularity of bar soap, a wider spectrum of products is available, and that includes luxury products, inexpensive varieties and more sustainable handmade soaps. Besides, bar soap is the clear winner on the sustainability front, is cost efficient and its consumption period is longer as compared to that of liquid soaps.. Thats where the real sustainability lies. KEYWORDS: liquid or bar soaps, questionnaires, variables, income levels, inexpensive
