HowToUseThisDocument:
Thisdocumentismeantasanaccompanimenttothetutorial"NX5forEngineeringDesign"byMignC. LeuandAkulJoshi.Itisnotmeantasastandalonereference. ImportantandsignificantversionchangesbetweenUnigraphicsNXrelease5.0and6.0thatmaycause frustrationtousersattemptingtocompletethetutorialforNX6aredetailedinthisdocument.Updates arenotexhaustiveinthatsomediscrepanciesarenotnotedformultipletoolsinwhichdiscrepanciesare identical.Updatesnotedbelowcontainonlyinformationthatisnotcontainedintheoriginaltutorial. Anystillrelevanttutorialmaterialwillnotbereproducedintheseupdates.

ThetransformfunctionscanbefoundunderEDIT>MOVEOBJECT

Here we choose an entity to transform. Transformations allow either moving an object, or copying an object with the new locations parameters. We can: Dynamically move objects using handles. Move objects a specific distance along a given vector, towards a given vector, or between two points.. Move and rotate objects along and about a specified vector.

Note:TheScale,Mirror,ArrayandIncrementalDynamicsrepositioningfunctionsareonlyavailablewith theTransformcommandontheEditmenu.ThiscommandisavailablewiththeEssentialswithfull menusandtheAdvancedwithfullmenusroles. 7

ClickonthePOINTCONSTRUCTORiconintheBlockWindowtocreatetheorigin. ThedropdownmenunexttothePOINTCONSTRUCTORcontainssomecommonlyusedpresets. Thedefaultshouldbesettozeroforallaxis.Selectokay. Selectfitandorientviewtotrimetrictoviewthenewlycreatedfeature. 9

SelectionCriteriamaybenarrowedbytheHoleDirectionpulldownmenu.Anexisting referenceorgeometricpointmaybeselectedunderPosition,orthepositionmaybedefinedby generatingasketch.clickontheSKETCHSECTIONbutton.

NOTE:areferencepointcouldbecreatedfromexistinggeometryusingthereferencefeaturestoolsin NX.ThenthepointcouldbeselectedintheHolewindowprovidinganalternativemethodtoproducing thisfeature. ThenextlessonofpositioningofmultipleholescontainedintheNX5tutorialnolongerseemstobea validwayofplacingholesonapart.Instead,apatternofreferencepointswouldbegeneratedbyeither sketchorindividuallyandmanuallyandselectedtoinsertholes.Multipleholesmaybeinsertedatonce byselectingmorethanonepointforinsertion.

PROFILE: TheprofiletoolhasanadditionforNX6whichallowsforamoreconvenientwayofspecifying interactionsbetweenlinesegmentsandarcs: startanewsketchinanewmodelfile selecttheprofiletoolanddrawalinesegment selectarcfromtheprofiledialogue Whenmousingoverthefreeendoftheprofilelinesegment,youwillnoticeasubdividedcircle appear.Thisallowsspecificationofalignmentbetweenthelinesegmentandthearcend. draggingthepointerthroughanyofthe4wedgeswillcreateanarcthatdefaultstobeing alignedtothatquadrantrelativetothelinesegment.Inthisway,tangentarcsand perpendiculararcsmaybeconvenientlyproduced.

Forcreatingtheedgeofthepart,adifferentsetofstepsisrequired.Thefunctionalityofthemove objectstoolsetseemstobelimitedinthatitwillnotallowcopyingofentitiesfromonesketchinto another.Toovercomethis,modelgeometrywillbeconvertedinstead. SelectINSERT>RECIPECURVE>PROJECTCURVE SelecttheinteriorsurfaceoftherevolvedshapeandpressOK Selectallshapesnottobeusedintheedgeextrusionandmakethemreferencegeometryby RIGHTCLICKINGandpressingMAKEREFERENCEGEOMETRY. Translate/copyoutercurveasdescribedinaboveprocesstoobtaindesiredresults.

Whencopyingtheedgetotheotherside,selecttheYCplanemanuallywhiletheinferred optionisselected,andpressOKAYandCOPY.
