Summary : Achieving a functional arc in a stiff and deformed elbow due to fracture dislocation is a challenge for any surgeon.

The goal of our study was to gain good range of motion by surgical release and debridment of joint and reattachment of medial epicondyle. Methods : A study included 12 cases of elbow stiffness due to posterior dislocation of elbow with intraarticular entrappment of medial epicondyle. There was no scope for conservative management like active and passive physiotherapy, so all the patient were treated surgically and followed up for a minimum period of 2 years and overall outcome was measured by MAYO clinical performance index. Result :In our study 11 patient out of 12 achieved excellent result (mayo score 90100) , with full functional gain. All elbows were painless and stable except one case which was mild painfull and moderately unstable. The mean preop MAYO score was 53.73 and mean post op MAYO score was 96.25 with a mean improvement of 42.52 ( t test value-13.75, p-value-<0.001) Conclusion : Such cases presenting with stiffness and deformity of the elbow, treated with arthrolysis & joint debridment and reattachment of medial epicondyle yields very good results, near normal elbow, irrespective of age, sex and duration of injury.
