CCSR - Facilites - Wireless Ad-hoc Testbed

The Wireless Ad-hoc Testbed (WAT) consists of 3 laptops and 4 Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), interconnecting in various topologies. The ad-hoc communication is achieved over the IEEE 802.11b standard. The devices are able to communicate with each other without the need for a central Access Point to the network, thus allowing for rapid and infrastructureless network configurations. The testbed is used to test performance and efficiency of applications and services targeted for Mobile Adhoc Networks, which constitute a field of continuous research within the Networks group. In order to achieve that, a Java-based Mobile Ad-hoc Network emulator has been implemented in order to emulate, under various scenarios, the physical mobility of the mobile nodes. The following picture depicts the experimental wireless ad-hoc testbed in various possible topologies, which are continuously changing over time:

The testbed has been extensively used for evaluating the performance and efficiency of our work on programmability in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks.
