GUIDE TO SKILLED MIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MAIN APPLICANT FOR SKILLED MIGRATION MUST MEET THE AGE REQUIREMENT OF LESS THAN 45 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. If you are in a relationship, your spouse, de facto/common law partner, fianc/e, girlfriend, boyfriend or interdependent same sex partner should also complete a

2 separate assessment questionnaire. Under the current Australian migration regulations, if a person is married or has a partner, then if anyone of you can meet the requirements for skilled migration to Australia, then everybody will be approved for migration provided everybody meets the health and character requirements. Beginning 1 September 2007, you can include in your application for skilled migration your interdependent partner (same sex relationship partner) if you have evidence that you have been living together in interdependent relationship for at least 12 months. Alternatively, if your partner can meet the skilled migration requirements, then you will be the one who will be included in his or her application for migration. You must be able to provide evidence of cohabitation, evidence of joint assets and liabilities, etc. at least for the last 12 months. In the following occupations, if the applicants have relatives/sponsors in Australia, they can now apply for migration even without first passing the examinations required for that particular occupation. However, if they apply under Skilled Independent (without a relative sponsor), they need to first pass the requirements of that profession or occupation before applying for migration to Australia to be able to meet the pass mark. If the applicant is qualified in any of the Migration Occupations in Demand, the applicant is entitled to 15 additional points if there is no job offer and 20 points if there is a job offer. Please note that the applicant must always be less than 45 years old at the time of lodgment of the migration application and meet the required pass mark. Computation of Points Score:

3 Scoring for each factor: 1. Nominated Occupation 60-point occupation is the highest. 2. Age: 18 to 29 30 points 30 to 34 25 points 35 to 39 20 points 40 to 44 15 points 3. English Language 15 points if you can score at least 6 for each component of the IELTS test or 25 points if you can score at least 7 for each of the component. If your nominated occupation is a trade, you can be awarded 15 points by scoring at least 5 for each component. If your nominated occupation is not a trade and your sponsor lives in a designated area, you can be awarded 15 points if you score at least an overall of 5.5. 4. Work experience: 10 points (if you have been working in your 60-point nominated occupation or closely related occupation for at least 3 years or 5 points if you have been working in a 50 or 40 point occupation for at least 3 years. 5. Spouse or Interdependent partners skills 5 points if your spouse or interdependent partner can meet the basic requirements. 6. Completed an Educational Qualification at an Australian Educational Institution: Doctorate (minimum 2 years study) - 25 points Masters degree and at least 1 year of a bachelor degree (minimum 3 years study) - 15 points. Bachelor degree with honours (minimum 3 years study) 15 points One or more degree, diploma or trade qualification (minimum 2 years study) 5 points. 7. Study in Regional Australia: Met two-year study requirement while living and studying in Regional Australia 5 points. 8. Occupation in Demand: such as Registered Nurse: 20 points if an applicant has an offer of full-time employment or 15 points if no job offer with the requirement that applicant has at least 12 months closely related work experience. 9. Sponsorship: 25 points if applicant has a qualified relative sponsor living in a designated area and the applicant is applying for skilled migration on a provisional visa. Note: There are other classes of visas not mentioned in this guide.
