    Registration Program for Overseas Educated Nurses

    NURSING the Career of a Lifetime

    Royal Perth Hospital is the leading teaching hospital and the Trauma Centre for Western Australia.
    Registration Program for Overseas Educated Nurses
    This program is designed for Overseas Educated Nurses who are seeking initial registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of WA, enabling them to practice in WA. Presently the program runs concurrently with the Renewal of Registration Program. This program can be completed through Distance Learning or by attending the Internal Program. The Distance Learning program can be commenced at any time and undertaken over twelve months. It requires the successful completion of learning modules followed by a four week clinical placement in an acute clinical setting. The Internal Program consists of four weeks full time theory followed by a four week clinical placement in an acute clinical setting. The program is supported by a comprehensive pre reading and activity package and is designed for participants to gain an understanding of nursing practice in Australia. Lectures and workshops are presented by experienced clinicians from a wide variety of backgrounds and expertise. Learning outcomes are based on the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency Standards. The theoretical component is conducted at either the Royal Perth Hospital or Shenton Park Campuss, while the clinical practicums are undertaken at various metropolitan and regional participating hospitals. While on clinical placement, the student is supernumerary and supported by a preceptor and education staff. Mentoring is provided by the course coordinator who is available to support the student, from the application process to organising clinical placement. Successful completion of the program will lead to Registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of WA.
