7th Annual Civil War Living History Weekend: Battle of Forks Road Saturday, February 25 900 am (grounds open)

5:00 pm Sunday, February 26 9:00 am (grounds open) 2:00 (museum remains open until 5:00 pm) Free and open to the public On Saturday and Sunday the Cameron Art Museum (CAM) commemorates the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Forks Road on the museum's historic site with the Battle of Forks Road event highlighting Confederate, Union and U.S. Colored Troop reenactors, infantry and artillery demonstrations; Battle of Forks Road skirmish both daysSaturday at 2:00 pm, Sunday at 1:00 pm; 2nd Annual Ghost Walk with Halyburton Park; sutlers, period music, fashions of the era and a program discussing daily family life when the men went to war by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Cape Fear Chapter 3; and more. The weekends activities also include an opening ceremony on Sat. Feb. 25 10:30 am with Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield, Dr. Chris Fonvielle, historian, UNCW and Malcolm Beech, 37th US Colored Troops Infantry and President of the Cultural Heritage Museum in Kinston, NC. Visitors will also be able to explore CAMs exhibitions for free including Civil War Era Drawings from the Becker Collection (on view Feb. 3 May 6, 2012). This site is where Major General Robert F. Hoke made his last stand against Union soldiers comprised primarily of U.S. Colored Troops in the final fight for Wilmington on February 20, 1865. Reenactors: Late year dress 1865; typical safety rules will apply and unsafe arms may not be allowed. All units are welcomed and encouraged to recruit for the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
