The War of 1812 at Sackets Harbor and Kingston presentation by MJR John Grodzinski, Battlefield Alliance / Historical Society annual meetings, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site barn off Hill Street, Tues. May 29, 7pm following the 6pm business meeting, free. Weapons of War collection of 1812 period weaponry loaned by Col. (ret.) Clayton Nans on exhibit at the Lieutenants House Gallery in the Navy Yard, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site, West Main St., from May 25 through Sept. 3, call for hours, free Archeology of the War of 1812 in Sackets Harbor exhibition, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site Hall House, West Washington St., opening TBA. Sackets Harbors International War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden Dedication, West Main at Ray Sts., Sun. June 17th, 2pm, free Sackets Harbors War of 1812 Bicentennial Kick-Off BBQ, at Harold W. Townsend American Legion Post #1757, 209 Ambrose St., Sun. June 17th, 2 to 5pm, open to the public, BBQ fee charged. War of 1812 Living History Camp, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site, West Washington St., mid-June through mid-Aug., Wednesdays through Saturdays 10am to 4:30pm (weather permitting), free Concerts on the Waterfront, sponsored by the Sackets Harbor Historical Society at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Sites Centennial Memorial Grove, West Main or Washington Sts., Sundays from June 24 through September 2, from 3 to 5pm, free with donations accepted War of 1812 Songs & Stories from New York and Beyond with musician Dave Ruch, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site Centennial Memorial Grove, west end of either West Main or Washington Sts., Wed. July 4th, 2pm. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic. This program, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities Speaker in the Humanities program. Sackets Harbor Battlefield Alliance Lawn Party with guest Mr. James Monroe War of 1812 Secretary of War & Secretary of State (aka Dennis Bigelow) on the lawn under tents at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Sites Navy Yard, West Main St., Fri. July 20 from 6pm to 8:30pm, Mr. Monroes presentation at 7pm; admission is annual dues in the Battlefield Alliance $25 individual, $40 family, or business and corporate $ 50 and higher. Light refreshments served. Mr. Monroe is supported by a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities. President Monroe Looks Back on the War of 1812 appearance by first-person interpreter Dennis Bigelow, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site Navy Yard lawn under tents, West Main St., Sat. July 21 from 10am to 5pm, Mr. Monroes presentation at 2pm, admission: $3 adults, $2 seniors, military & students with ID, children under 12 yrs. free, includes a tour of the Navy Yard buildings. Supported by a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities. Annual Kite Fest, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site barn off Hill Street, Sat. July 21, from 1 to 5pm, free kites while they last (weather permitting) Boots & Slippers On the Ground: The War of 1812 in Sackets Harbor speakers series, different topics each Saturday, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site barn off Hill Street, Saturdays July 7, 14, 28, Aug. 11, 18, from 11am to 11:45am, free; order a Battlefield Box Lunch, lunch fee charged. The Civil War of 1812 talk with Pulitzer Prize winning author Prof. Alan Taylor on his acclaimed War of 1812 book, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site picnic pavilion area off Hill Street under a tent, Friday August 3, 6pm, free. Supported by a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities. 10th Annual War of 1812 Living History Weekend military life demonstrations, water vessels, cannon firing, wreath laying; Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site property Hill and Washington Sts., Saturday Aug.4 from 9am to 5pm and Sunday August 5 from 9am to 3pm; free Monument to the War of 1812 Crown Forces buried on the battlegrounds, ground breaking ceremony, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site property, Ontario Street, Sat.
