Here are the results from the November 15th Hometown Discoveries.  Students 
came to Saturday’s event with a strong background in identifying the locations of 
countries but their general knowledge increased in relation to interesting and important 
facts about the extreme nature of the Americas.  For example, many students learned 
about the longest mountain range, longest living animal, longest river and the biggest city 
in all of the Americas.  Students also learned the location of the nearest Indian lands to 
DC and the location of where corn and potatoes originated.  Students were asked to 
identify 13 countries and states in the Americas and there was an average increase of 
being able to identify one more than before participating in Hometown Discoveries.  So 
even the though the growth was modest this month it is still happening!
