INFORMATION BULLETIN MAC 25 ALLOWABLE WIND SPEED

Australian Standard AS 1418.5 sets out the design requirements for wind allowance this specifies the lateral loading allowance for wind at 10 m/s. As a general wind speed allowance we align ourselves with this Australian Standard stating 10 m/s. However AS 1418.5 also gives a more conservative method for calculating lateral load using 6% of the rated capacity applied laterally at the lifting point TEREX|FRANNA calculate using this method. Due to the conservative nature of this calculation, we are able to back calculate for specific applications and use the inherent strength in this calculation method. Hence, it is possible to increase the maximum wind speed operating limit as per the following guidelines. Maximum operating wind speed 15 m/s. Load area allowed - 1 m2/t Safe Working Load capacity. Aerodynamic slenderness ratio(Cw) based on 1.2. Note the Cw must be confirmed for different load shapes. Load must be tagged to ensure it does not swing outside tipping line of machine. Main power boom only - can be used for all main power boom lengths. Fly jib can only be used at wind speeds up to 10 m/s. Applies only to TEREX|FRANNA MAC 25 - other models need to be confirmed.
