ABSTRACT The newest concept in the world of fashion is eco-friendly textiles. There is a rapid increase in the usage of sustainable fabrics and tapping of natural resources like jute, hemp and cane. Eco-friendly clothing is not only a positive step towards saving the environment, but also easy on the skin. One of the hot items is fabrics made from traditional materials, such as bamboo. Bamboo Charcoal Fibers is a new kind of fibers that uses Nano-Bamboo Charcoal powder. Bamboo Charcoal Fibers not only have the function to achieve super absorption, deodorization, and moisture absorption for perspiration emitting, heat storing and antimicrobial and mildew resistance, but also have excellent performance regarding infrared ray and anion emission and ultraviolet radiation resistance, etc. This work is undertaken to study the comfort properties and value-added properties of the bamboo charcoal fibre blended fabrics and also to compare between this eco- fabric and commercial cotton and polyester fabric by means technical and commercial feasibility. Though the commercial cotton/rayon blend has good comfort properties, with the addition of bamboo charcoal, its Anti-bacterial activity, infra-red emission, and UV protection level has been improved considerably. The commercial Polyester/Rayon fabric blend was compared with polyester/rayon bamboo charcoal fabrics for specific functional uses, tactile comfort properties and the thermal comfort properties. The comfort properties of the synthetic blends have improved significantly. In the highlight of the above in-depth study and its findings, it is evident that the bamboo charcoal blend fabric samples have got indigenous technical and commercial feasibility in enhancing the comfort properties of the synthetic fabrics and improvised the special properties of cotton fabrics.
