FRANK F, SLOCOMB, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO F. F. SLOCOMB
& 00,, INCORPORATED, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE,
LEATHER-STAKING MACHINE,

‘Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mat. 9, 1915,
Original application fled November 6, 1911, Serial No. 658,646. Divided and this application fled June 26,
1014. Serial No, 847,398.
To.all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Frank F, Srocoss, a
citizen of the United States, residing in the
city and county of Philadelphia, State of
5 Pennsylvania, have invented a new and use-
ful Leather-Staking Machine, of which the
following is a specification.
‘My present invention consists of a novel
constriiction of a leather staking machine
10 wherein the rollers which coact with the
cams on the connecting rod are mounted in
a novel manner in order that said rollers
will at all times codperate with the opera-
tive surface of the cam.
15 It further consists of a novel construction
of a leather staking machine wherein novel
rieans are provided for limiting the upward
movement of the jaws in order to prevent
injury to the operator.
Te iurther consists of other novel features
of construction, all as will be hereinafter
fully set forth. .
‘This application ig a division of an ap-
plication for Letters Patent for leather stak-
25 ing machine, Serial No, 658,646, filed by me
on November 6, 1911,
For the purpose of illustrating my inven-
tion, I have shown in the accompanying
drawings, one form thereof which is at
30 present preferred by me, since the same has
een found in practice to give satisfactory
and reliable results, although it is to be
understood that the various instrumentali-
ties of which my invention consists ean be
85 voriously arranged and organized and that
my invention is not limited to the precise
arrangement and organization of these in-
strumentalities as herein shown and de-
seribed.
‘Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation
of a leather staking machine embodying my
invention, a portion of the same being
broken away. Fig. 2 represents a front
elevation of a portion of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 rep-
resents a sectional elevation of another em-
bodiment of my invention.
sents a side elevation of » portion of Fig. 1,
the roller and its adjuncts being omitted.

Similar numerals of reference indicate
corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings—1 designates
the housing of the machine which may be
of any desired construction.
2 designates a connecting rod, a portion
of the sime being broken away, it being of
course understood that said connecting rod
away be actuated or reciprocated by means
of a crank or other device (not shown). 8
designates a pin or pivot common to said
connecting rod and the plates 4, the general
contour of said plates being understood by
reference to Fig. 1, said plates when in
position forming with their adjuncts, 65
cross head 5 which reciprocates in suitable
slides, and a detailed description of the lat-
ter is unnecessary since the same is old in
the art.
_ Pivoted at 6 to the plates 4 is an upper 70
jaw 7, and pivoted at 8 to the plates 4 is the
lower jaw 9. The upper jaw T has secured
thereto in the usual manner, a bracket 10
through which passes a threaded stem 11,
which is secured with respect to the bracket 75
by means of suitable nuts 12 and 13. The
Jower end of the threaded stem 11 is forked,
as indicated at 14, in order to receive the
journal 15 which 'is pivoted with respect
‘thereto by means of bolts and nuts 16, or 80
equivalent fastening devices.
17 designates a roller carried by the forked
end. of the journal 15 and secured therein
by means of a bearing pin 18, said roller
codperating with the cam 19 on the connect- 85
ing rod 2, as will be apparent by reference
to Fig. 1.
20 “designates rods which are mounted
on the pivot pin 3 and extend through a
cross bar 31, carried by the bracket. 10, and
at their upper end they are provided with a
plurality of nuts 22 having threaded engage-
ment therewith and one of which serves as
a lock nut.
98 is a washer between which and the 95
cross bar 21 is interposed a spring 24, it
being understood by reference to Fig. 5 that
two of these rods 20 and their adjuncts are
employed.
