December, 1919 Last night I heard your voice, mother, The words you sang to me When I, a little barefoot

boy, Knelt down against your knee. And tears gushed from my heart, mother, And passed beyond its wall, But though the fountain reached my throat The drops refused to fall. 'Tis ten years since you died, mother, Just ten dark years of pain, And oh, I only wish that I Could weep just once again

Analysis
a. The allusion in this poem is in part of the poem where he refers to his mother saying Last night I heard your voice, mother, and also the part when he refers himself as a little barefoot boy saying When I, a little barefoot boy b. The tone for this I say would be impassioned because this poem was so full of emotion especially in the first line second stanza where he said And tears gushed from my heart, mother and another tone word could be mourning because hes expressing his sorrow for the loss of his mother in this poem. c. I couldnt really identify any figurative language in this poem. d. A theme for this poem could be that when you lose a loved one you will still feel the pain for a long period of time. e. My interpretation of the poem is that he was reminiscing the times of when he was little and when his mother was still in his life and he was just really hurt.
