    Asbestos Disposal

    Cement bonded asbestos can be found in shed roofs, wall panels, drain pipes, tiles, gutters and heating systems. Small quantities can be taken to Ardley, Dix Pit and Redbridge Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).
    Asbestos can only be accepted if you have carried out the work yourself. If a tradesperson is employed to remove the asbestos they have a responsibility to dispose of it properly and cannot use the HWRCs. Please ensure you ask about the disposal route of the asbestos before allowing them to undertake the work. Tradespeople can contact us on 08450 50 45 50 for advice on how to dispose of asbestos appropriately. How to remove asbestos safely: Asbestos is classified as hazardous waste and is very dangerous if the fibres are released. Health & Safety Executive guidance should be followed when removing and handling the material. This is available at www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos or 0845 345 0055. If you would like a hard copy please contact the Waste Management Group.

    Terms and conditions for disposal: 24 hours notice must be given before asbestos is brought to the site, in order to ensure there is enough room in the container. Please use the contact numbers below: Ardley: Dix Pit: 01869 343459 01865 880782

    Redbridge: 01865 721464 A maximum of eight 6 x 4 foot sheets of asbestos can be accepted in one visit. Asbestos needs to be double wrapped in a minimum of 1000 gauge polythene (no bin bags) and completely sealed. Proof of identity must be shown, for example on a utility bill or driving licence. You are responsible for removing the asbestos from your vehicle and placing it into the container. Not following the terms and conditions will result in refusal to deposit asbestos at the HWRCs.
