His birth name was Robert Nesta Marley. His father was a white captain of the British Army and his mother an eighteen-year old black Jamaican woman.

He left school at the age of 14 to make music is life. He became Rastafari, a kind of religion.

In 1962 Bob Marley recorded his first two singles. In 1963, Bob Marley formed a band, "The Wailers".

The Wailers' first major album, Catch a Fire was released worldwide in April 1973. It didn't make Marley a star, but it was a good start. It was followed later that year by the album Burnin', which included the hits "Get Up, Stand Up", and "I Shot the Sheriff.

Reggae music is everywhere and even people who dont hear it much usually like at least a couple of Bob Marley tracks. One Love is his best known and best loved composition. He died in Miami on the morning of the 1st of May 1981, at the age of 36. Bob Marley was the Third World's first pop superstar. He is today a global symbol. He died more than 30 years ago, but his legacy is very much alive. His music is still being played thirty years after his death and it will still be played one hundred and thirty years after his death.
