Bob Marley

Who was Bob Marley

Robert Nesta Marley was a

Jamaican singer, guitarist, and
songwriter.
He is the most widely known
performer of reggae music and
is famous for popularizing the
genre outside Jamaica.
Marley was born
on February 6
1945 in the small
village of Nine
Miles in the Saint
Ann Parish,
Jamaica.
His parents Booker and
Norval’s marriage was
short-lived, and they
split soon after Bob’s
birth, due in large part to
Norval's status as a
White middle-aged
plantation manager and
Booker's identity as a
Black teenager. Marley said he
was often bullied for
his biracial heritage
growing up and
derogatorily referred
to as "White Boy."
In 1963, Bob Marley, Bunny Livingston, Peter McIntosh, Junior
Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, and Cherry Smith formed a ska and
rocksteady group, called "The Wailers".

all time.

untimely death in 1981, Bob
Marley’s estate was valued at
$11.5 million, which, when
adjusted for inflation, is
equivalent to $32 million in
today’s dollars

is regarded by many as
a prophet of the religion.
•It is alleged that
Marley smoked up to 18
joints each day.

because he practiced the
Rastafarian religion. In
this religion, ganja is

diagnosed with a type of
malignant
melanoma under the nail
of his right big toe.
He died at Cedars of
Lebanon Hospital in
Miami, Florida on the
morning of May 11,
1981 at the age of 36.
