TRADITIONAL CLOTHES OF NORTH SULAWESI

 THE ANCIENT CLOTHES OF MINAHASA


Long time ago, the women in North Sulawesi ( Minahasa) wore kebaya as their daily clothes. The clothes called Wuyang , it was a kind of clothes that made of the skin woods. They also used the gown or womens blouse, called Pasalongan Rinegetan. It was made of Bentenan Fabric. The man used Baju Karai, a kind of t-shirt but armless, straight shape, black color and made of palm fiber fabrics. In addition to Baju Karai, there was also a long shirt with the collar and wallet, its called Baju Baniang . They also used the trousers or pants, it looks like pajamas trousers. In the further expansion, the Minahasa clothes got more influences from Europe and Chinas people. The womens clothes got Spain influences, consist of Long sleeve of Kebaya and various skirts. The Chineses influences are white kebaya fabric with the birds and flowering motifs. The inluence of Spainish for the mens clothes are long shirt ( baniang ) but with the others fashion style. The baniang have chance like full cover coat with their trousers. This clothes have made from white blacu fabrics.

 RECENT CLOTHES OF MINAHASA

In the beginning, the Minahasas clothes was called Karai Momo or Wuyang. Nowadays the clothes has so many style for example the wedding dress of Minahasas people. They have used long white sleeve kebaya, adorned by Sujiber embroidery and the motifs are grains, coconut flowers, and jasmine aromatic. They also using a long V-skirt, that larger on the beneath part. Its called Putri Duyung clothes. The men clothes consist of two parts, those are upper part and beneath part. The upper part is called Baniang. Baniang is a long sleeves style shirt with collar and wallet on the bottom right and left side. The front part of the clothes, there are some embroidery motifs, based on the users of it. The down part, they were used trousers. The length are untill their heel, and wider than the upper part of the trousers. The colour is black and no motifs. The additional accessory is asnake skins belt. It was tooken from Patola snake and crown shape in its front part.

 THE CUSTOM LEADERS CLOTHES


Tonaas Wangko is the traditional clothes of the custom leader in Minahasa, North Sulawesi. It is a long sleeves shirt, high collar, straight shape, button style and no pocket outside. Black colour and flower motifs as long as the clothes have become the characteristic of it. All the motifs are yellow and gold. In additon, they also wear a red hat with the same motifs and colours.
