The color study Assignment was an in debt study of light and color.

The starting point of this assignment was a painting, mine was Vetheuil at midday by Claude Monet (at the Art Institute of Chicago). The assignment description lies attache d. We experimented a lot with how to mix the colors present in the painting, and ho w they affect each other, and how reflection changes a color. Monet uses a limi ted pallet, that becomes very diverse by mixing them on the canvas. We identified a 3 main color fields in the painting, Purple, green and Blue, but there are infinite variations of these withing the paining. We created an insta llation that has only 3 base colors when seen from the front. However, each pane l is faced by a panel painted in a different color. Light coming from the window s behind reflects of the panels facing away from us, and changes the appearance of the three base colors. The result is that what is in reality painted in just three different colors actually appears to be painted in some 40 different varia tions.
