The chair project. Assignment was to reinterpret a given chair and build it usin g cardboard.

The chair had to be stable, and able to support a normally sized hu man. I was assigned the MR 10 Chair my Mies van der Rohe. The chair was an experiment with the at the time new material, tubular steel. We recognized the sleek profi le as the essential element of the chair. It was also important to achieve a can tilevering effect. We cut a thick, continuous line out of cardboard, and made 5 lamination's of thi s module on each side. Plenty of side braces were necessary to keep the two site d from being bushed apart, but these could also function as a seat. We tried to bury them inside so that they would not disturb the profile, and without removin g the vertical strength of the profile.
