FESTIVALS CELEBRATED IN KUALA LUMPUR AND SELANGOR

THAIPUSAM

Thaipusam is a festival celebrated by the Hindus. In Selangor state, it is celebrated in Batu Caves, Gombak. Thaipusam usually falls on February. It marks the birthday of lord Murugan. Generally, Hindus take a vow to offer a kavadi to show their devotion to lord Murugan.

Batu Caves

Batu Caves is a limestone hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, located in Gombak district, 13 kilometres (8 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. To reach the Temple cave visitors must climb a steep flight of 272 steps.

NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION

Hari Merdeka (Independence Day) is a national day of Malaysia commemorating the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in 1957, and celebrated on August 31 each year. Hari medeka is usually celebrated in Merdeka Square which is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on 31 August 1957. Since then, Merdeka Square has been the usual venue for the annual Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade). Merdeka Square was formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang or simply the "Padang and now known as RSC.
