FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 9, 2012 THE NEW BATTLE FOR VOTERS RIGHTS Today, nearly fifty years

after the original voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery Alabama, a group of citizens are retracing the steps of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Justice Party Presidential candidate Rocky Anderson, a long time fighter for human rights totally supports the march. Under the guise of voter fraud, 31 states have passed laws requiring some sort of voter ID. It is not a coincidence that the IDs required are the kind most minorities do not have. The new voting requirements are a blatant attempt to deny the right to vote to the young, the elderly, naturalized citizens and the new laws disproportionately hurt Latinos and Blacks. The George W. Bush Justice Department spent a huge amount of money to document voter fraud but, after five years, it could not find one case to prosecute. Voter fraud is just another right wing-conspiracy theory meant to scare people. It is also intended to keep groups who are traditionally more progressive away from the polls. We can never let this country return to the days when women and minorities were kept from voting by artificial means. Anderson believes our efforts should be spent encouraging people to vote. So many people have lost confidence in our election process. When they look at Washington, DC they see greed and corruption. When they look at the traditional political parties, they see a lack of principles and an assembly line of candidates who cant provide solutions to their real life problems. Many Americans have become complacent about voting while others who want the chance to vote are being thwarted in their attempts. While there seem to be some Republican candidates down South today... I do not see any of them marching for voting rights. Voting rights should not be a partisan issue.
