2012-2013 Delta Agricultural Education and FFA Courses

Welcome to Delta High School! The Delta FFA is a dynamic youth organization that prepares students for further educational opportunities and career experiences through Premier Leadership, Personal Growth and Career Success. Through the FFA you will have the opportunities to attend leadership conferences, compete in career development events, participate in money generating projects, and be eligible for over 2 million dollars in scholarships annually given to FFA members. In order for you to be eligible for these opportunities you must be enrolled in one of the approved agricultural education courses at Delta High School or Delta Technical Center. (Listed below)

Animal Science I (Science Credit or Technical Education Credit) From dissections to field trips, this class prepares students for careers in animal science and veterinary medicine. With a newly constructed animal science facility, students will have the opportunity for hands on interactive experiences. Each student will be working directly with animals. Floriculture & Landscape (Art Credit or Technical Education Credit)

Grades 9-10

Grades 9-12

Students will explore the principles of art by designing boutonnires, corsages, and floral arrangements. Students will discover wedding and sympathy planning while exploring floral design careers. Students will learn the principles of design by designing landscapes, installing plant and landscaping materials. With a state of the art greenhouse students will plant, grow, market, sell, and install nursery and landscapes materials. Biology: Agricultural Science (Science Credit) Grades 9-10

This course meets the state standards for Biology, with the only differences being the emphasis on agriculture and membership in the Delta FFA. Students will study the anatomy and physiology of animals and plants from cells, to tissues, to genetics, and ecology. Students will have a mix of instructional methods, with a focus on hands on learning. This course will prepare students for careers in animal science, veterinary science, medicine, natural resources, and plant sciences.

Agricultural Mechanics (Technical Education Credit)

Grades 9-12

Hands on is the best way to describe this class. Welding, plumbing, small gas engines, electricity, and fabrication, are some of the areas covered in this class. Students will be able to work on an individual project, that each student selects and works on based on their own personal interests.

Plant Science I (Science Credit or Technical Education Credit)

Grades 9-12

Concurrent Enrollment Available - USU Plant Science 1800 Breadth Science Course Gardening, field crops, forestry, flowers, and landscaping, students will be involved in the science of growing and maintaining plants. The students learn in the classroom, the greenhouse, and in the field. Through experimentation and exploration students will come to understand the anatomy and physiology of plants. With a partnership with Utah State University students can earn college credit. Agricultural Communications and FFA Leadership (Capstone Class) Grades 11-12

Whether you are a chapter officer, committee chairman, sterling scholar, club president, student body officer, class presidency, or you want to develop yourself, this class is all about creating and developing leaders. This class prepares leaders through an array of necessary life skills. From team building, public speaking, parliamentary procedure, interviewing, journalism, communication, this class will prepare you for college and your future career. Vetrinary Assisting (Technical Education Credit) This course is specifically designed for students who want to pursue degrees in veterinary sciences, medicine, or students wishing to understand the basics of animal husbandry care for their own animals. Partnering with veterinarians and livestock producers will give these students a hands on approach to understanding the anatomy and physiology of animals. Grades 11-12
