    We can remotely install SAP software by running SAPinst GUI on a separate host from SAPinst. SAPinst GUI connects to the GUI server using SSL, and the GUI server then connects to SAPinst. When starting SAPinst on a UNIX environment, you need to log on as the root user and run the /sapinst command from the installation DVD. During installation, SAPinst uses port 21200 to communicate with the GUI server, while the GUI server uses port 21212 to communicate with SAPinst GUI.     We can perform a remote installation with SAPinst, where SAPinst GUI is running on a separate host from SAPinst and the GUI server. When you start SAPinst, SAPinst GUI and the GUI server also start. SAPinst GUI Connects to the GUI server with a secure SSL connection and the GUI server connects to SAPinst. On UNIX environment, we can start SAPInst in following way: 1. Logon into host using root-user. 2. Start SAPinst from the installation master DVD with the command. /sapinst.

SAPinst uses port 21200 to communicate with the GUI server. The GUI server uses port 21212 to communicate with SAPinst GUI. NOTE: You get an error message if one of these ports is already in use by another service. In this case we can start sapinst with the following command line parameters: SAPINST_DIALOG_PORT=<free_port_number_sapinst_gui_to_gui_server> GUISERVER_DIALOG_PORT=<free_port_number_gui_server_to_sapinst_gui>
