INTRODUCTION The theme of present paper is Yes/ No Questions in English.

The reasons for writing a paper on this topic are as follows. Language is an instrument used to be in contact with other people, express feelings, emotions. Every speech is based on the sentences. The Questions is one of the most common types of the sentences. They are used in colloquial speech, in lectures and conferences, in books and magazines, in posters and advertisements, etc. The sentences are divided into communicative types. Every of them are very large theme. That why the author of paper is concentrated on the one topic interrogatives, and exactly yes/no questions. Attention has been paid to the peculiarities of yes/no questions and their examples in literature. Therefore, the aim of the paper is: to study theoretical material about yes/ no questions in English and to look into the purposes of use them and the peculiarities of them. to analyse examples The present research is based on the study and analysis of eight bibliography sources in English language, the essential ones being: Kreidler, C.W. (1998) Introducing English Semantics Downing, A. and Locke, P. (2006) English Grammar. A University Course Buks, K. and Rusmane, E. (1996) Manual of English Grammar The outline of the chapters: The paper contains four chapters. The first chapter focuses on the essence of communicative types of sentence and peculiarities of each of them. The second chapter gives particular information about interrogatives and yes/no questions exactly. The third chapter shows the table created by the author of paper where examples of questions from K. Mansfield three stories The Wind Blow, The Daughters of the Late Colonel, and A Cup of Tea are analysed. The last chapter contains information exactly about yes/no questions in Mansfields stories based on the created table.
