    The Admiralty communique reported that more than 15 warships and an unspecified number of aircraft took part in chasing and sinking the German battleship Bismarck. The ships involved included 6 battleships, 4 cruisers, 2 aircraft carriers, 3 destroyers and other unmentioned craft. Specifically named were the cruisers Norfolk and Suffolk, the battleship Hood (which was sunk), battleship Prince of Wales, aircraft carrier Victorious, battleships King George V, Renown, Rodney and Ramillies, aircraft carrier Ark Royal, cruiser Sheffield, and destroyers Cossack, Zulu, Maori, and cruiser Dorsetshire.

Unmentioned Nvere numerous destroyers which -normally would be attached to the larger units.
